The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened a consultative session of all political parties to prepare a code of conduct for the next elections.
According to sources, the ECP summoned the meeting on June 20. The session will be chaired by the chief election commissioner. The election commission already sought recommendations from all political parties over code of conduct and a self-prepared draft of conduct was also sent to political parties.
Meanwhile, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Shakirullah Jan said the elections would be held on time, and in a free and fair manner.
He said it was the government’s responsibility to maintain law and order; however, the commission could also issue directives in this regard.
He was speaking at a ceremony held at Nishtar Hall attended by all regional commissioners from districts/agencies and officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Election Commission.
The meeting was held to review arrangements for holding upcoming elections in both KP and FATA. Later, while talking to media persons, the acting CEC said the commission was acting according to the directives issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on holding free and fair local bodies elections.
He said that voting machines might not be used in the upcoming elections, adding that the process of electoral lists would be completed within a month.
