Punjab Chief Minister Shahabaz Sharif said on Friday that Rs 70 billion from the Benazir Income Support Programme should be spent on electricity projects.
“Pakistan needs electricity to run its industries; Rs 70 billion from the Benazir Income Support Programme should be spent on electricity projects,” tweeted the CM, who is one of the most active politicians on social media sites.
“The Minar-e-Pakistan tent-office is for solidarity with the people and to protest against discrimination against Punjab by unequal load shedding,” he tweeted later.
Later, presiding over a high level meeting at his Minar-e-Pakistan Camp Office on Friday, the CM said the provincial metropolis is being beautified through horticulture and landscaping to provide a naturally beautiful environment to the citizens.
24 of the city’s roads have been declared as model roads on which horticulture work has been started.
He said Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) is vigorously striving to beautify various roads through landscaping.
He said flyovers and overhead bridges have been made attractive by planting flowering plants. He stated that during the monsoon season,
3,000 fruit plants will be planted along the canal road.
He said benches have also been installed at various locations along the Canal Road for the convenience of the public.
The chief minister added that along the green belt on Multan Road, a gymnasium will be built for the youth.
He announced that a state-of-the-art sports complex will also be constructed at Doongi Ground Samanabad.
