Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif said a new fruit and vegetable market is being constructed at Kacha on Ferozepur Road at a cost of one billion rupees which will be completed within six months. He was talking to media representatives and citizens on the foundation laying ceremony of the new vegetable and fruit market on Friday. National and provincial assembly members, government officers and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.
He said that best commercial facilities will be made available in the fruit market and the project will be exemplary with respect to quality and transparency.
He said the shopkeepers previously working in the Kot Lakhpat fruit market will be provided shops in the new market on a priority basis while the remaining shops will be allotted on merit. The CM said the Kot Lakhpat area has come within urban limits therefore the existence of a fruit market in the area is inappropriate. Sharif informed that offices, barracks, roads, shops and a mosque will be constructed in the new market. Earlier, the chief minister unveiled the plaque of the foundation-stone of the market. Lahore DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal also gave a detailed briefing regarding the project.
