The press conference held by property tycoon Malik Riaz on Tuesday evening not just brought him a show cause notice by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, but also the estrangement of his lawyer who refused to take responsibility for his client’s act.
Speaking to journalists at the Lahore High Court on Wednesday, Malik’s lawyer Zahid Bukhari said he was not involved or responsible for his client’s press conference. He said Riaz’s allegations at the press conference were “his personal opinions”, adding that he had avoided answering questions raised by reporters for the same reason. Bukhari said he was only responsible for what was said in the court.
Earlier on Wednesday, the SC summoned a record of the press conference, and discussed Riaz’s statements at length during an hour-long meeting attended by 12 apex court judges.
