Ian Bell was recalled to the England squad on Monday for their upcoming three-match one-day international series against the West Indies.
Warwickshire batsman Bell, back in the limited overs set-up after being left out of England’s 4-0 one-day win against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in February, having struggled in the preceding Tests.
However, with Kevin Pietersen having retired from one-day internationals last week, England have a vacancy at the top of the order which Bell, who made an unbeaten 76 in the washed out third Test against the West Indies concluded at Edgbaston on Monday, could now fill alongside one-day skipper Alastair Cook.
The 30-year-old Bell averages just over 34 in 108 one-day internationals but has scored just the one hundred.
In addition to their 14-man one-day squad, England also named a separate 13-man party for the stand alone Twenty20 at Trent Bridge ahead of the defence of their World Twenty20 title in Sri Lanka in September.
“We are anticipating a very competitive NatWest series against West Indies and are looking to continue to build on the progress we made in limited overs cricket earlier this year against Pakistan,” said Englamd national selector Geoff Miller in a statement.
“Kevin Pietersen’s recent decision to retire from one day cricket means we now start looking at other options available to us as we prepare to defend our ICC World Twenty20 title and look towards next year’s ICC Champions Trophy and the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup,” the former England off-spinner added.
