Paramedics call off strike after meeting with Shahbaz

Paramedics of Punjab after successful negotiations with Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday called off one-month long strike. It should be mentioned here that representatives of paramedical staff held conclusive talks with Shahbaz Sharif at camp office in Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday.
Paramedics across Punjab were holding protests and strike in favour of their demands including revised service structure, health professional allowance and regularisation of contract employees.
Earlier, the protesting paramedics had closed down the outpatient departments (OPDs), indoors and other departments of the hospitals to record their protest against lack of interest on the part of the health department to resolve outstanding issues of employees and had also threatened to close ICU and emergency on June 11 if their demands were not met. However, after Sunday’s meeting with Punjab Chief Minister, Malik Munir along with other representatives of the paramedical staff announced to call off their strike.
During the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif announced a monthly professional allowance of Rs1,500 for the staff falling between scale I-IV while ordered to form a committee for the revision of service structure for employees of scale IV-XVI.
