The Border Levies Police (BMP) officials accused of raping five female tourists on Sunday denied the charges against them.
Talking to reporters over telephone from an undisclosed location, the three cops claimed that they did not molest the girls and it was a “planned conspiracy” against them.
The three personnel, identified as Zahid, Naveed and Muzaffar, were of the view that they were ready to present themselves before the investigation team if they were assured that the process would be transparent.
“We respect women and did not commit the crime, in fact, the girls are lying.”
Cops said the five girls, along with two boys, were in a car when they stopped them at a checkpost in Fort Munro, but the girls refused to get themselves searched.
The girls’ refusal turned into an argument and fight between the cops and the boys, and according to the cops, they fled the scene without getting themselves checked.
They said they themselves came to know through the media that they had “raped” the girls “They registered a fake case to avenge the fight,” the officials added. Dera Ghazi Khan DCO said there were contradictions in the statements of the girls.
DCO Iftikhar Ali told reporters that complete security was being provided to the girls and their medical reports would be arriving from Lahore today (Monday).
He said the girls had not yet disclosed their identities, adding that officials accused of rape would voluntarily surrender today (Monday).
“The elders of tribes who have given refuge to the fugitives have assured us that they will be handed over to the authorities for investigations,” the DCO said. “Whether the allegations of rape are true or false, we can determine this only after an investigation.”
Tariq Basra, Border Military Police commandant, said on Sunday that the women filed a complaint saying the accused were drunk when they raped them.
“The women complained that they were also filmed when the policemen assaulted them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the NA Standing Committee on Human Rights on Sunday took notice of the case and summoned Border Military Police commandant, Dera Ghazi Khan DCO and DPO on June 21 with all the relevant record.
