Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday said there was no justification in demanding Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to step down from his position over his son’s case as there were no allegations against him personally.
“The CJ has separated himself from the bench which will hear Dr Arsalan Iftikhar case and it is a unique example in the history of the country,” he added. He said the convicted prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani had again disrespected the Supreme Court’s decision by appointing Rehman Malik adviser on interior.
In a telephonic chat with the Okara Press Club, Qureshi said all parliamentarians should have left their offices after the SC verdict on the dual nationality issue, but to tease the court the government has adjusted them which shows that the government was not bothered with the SC’s decisions. He said Dr Arsalan Iftikhar had appeared in the SC to clarify his position regarding the allegations leveled against him and now it was Malik Riaz’s turn to prove those blames were true. Qureshi was of the view that all opposition parties should unite over the SC decision regarding expenses of the general elections. He said free and fair election was mandatory to protect the future of the country, therefore the army and eth FC should be deployed to monitor the general election to ensure transparency. The PTI leader said some political forces were hatching conspiracies and were demanding his party to comment over Arsalan Iftikhar issue to create ambiguities but the party leadership was aware of all such tactics. Qureshi said the people were not deaf and dumb and they were closely observing what was going on in the country.
