After boasting of giving up air conditioners and operating provincial affairs from the Camp Office at Minar-e-Pakistan by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, his cabinet and officials of the province continue using luxuries in their offices. “This all seems to be a media campaign to gain political mileage,” sources in the provincial government said.
Shahbaz Sharif, who is very vocal against the skyrocketing power prices and outagtes, repeatedly said he and his cabinet members are working from the Camp Office.
The CM passed instructions forbidding the use of air conditioners. These directions were to be implemented not only at the CM’s house, but at all the provincial government’s offices. However, the provincial officers are openly defying the orders.
According to sources, CM Punjab Principal Staff Officer Nadeem Husain Asif, Coordination Secretary Dr Tauqeer and other officials are working in air-conditioned offices.
The members of the Punjab cabinet, including Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, Iqbal Chinter, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Nadeem Kamran, Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi, Ahmed Ali Olakh, Rana Sanaullah and Rana Asif Mahmud are all defying the orders.
These ministers use their Camp Offices only when they call the media for a press briefing, said sources.
PML-N to ensure peaceful environment for citizens : Shahbaz
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the provision of a safe and peaceful environment to the people is a priority of the Punjab government and maximum resources are being provided to improve the efficiency of the police.
Presiding over a meeting at the Minar-Pakistan Camp Office on Saturday, he directed that besides administrative measures, full benefit should be taken from information and communication technology for the capacity building of the police.
He directed that proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes as well the criminals who are in the black books should be apprehended immediately.
The chief minister said the police officials safeguarding the life and property of citizens are precious assets and by laying down their lives these martyrs have proved that the safety of the people is of paramount importance.
Later, the Inspector General Police (IGP) Haji Habib-ur-Rehman informed the meeting about the overall law and order situation in the province, the police’s performance and the significant features of the proposed reorganisation.
