Unhygienic conditions prevail at hostels

Hostels of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have complained of unhygienic conditions at their abodes.
Some hostel inmates told APP on Friday that the hostel kitchen has turned into a garbage place with rotten vegetables strewn around.
“We are quite used to getting stomach problems because of unhygienic food served by the hostel management. We cannot avoid eating such food this age of high inflation as the owners charge for the same on monthly basis along with room rent. We are compelled to eat whatever is cooked by them. We have no other option,” they said.
They said that sub-standard food items are used for cooking, but the officials neither visit the hostels nor listen to their grievances. They appealed to the authorities to set up a committee for regularizing the hostels and making them bound to follow food standards. Atif Aslam, an employee living in a hostel, said that foods provided by the hostels were of very poor quality.
He said that the hostel owners charge too much but provide sub-standard food. The rates for food, which is even of poor standard, are higher than the restaurants, a student alleged.
A private hostel manager said that he was not satisfied with his earnings because the bachlors ate more food.
He said that hostel management was charging around Rs 2000 per month for three meals a day which was very cheap and affordable. In this amount, we can arrange food of high standard, he added.
He said that if the batchelors demand high quality foods then they must have to pay high charges for the same.
