Threats to Asma: Senate body demands judicial probe

Chairman Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights Afrasiab Khattak Friday suggested Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to order a judicial inquiry into the reported assassination threats to human rights activist Asma Jahangir.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Afrasiab Khattak quoted media reports containing concerns expressed by Asma Jahangir over leaked plan for her assassination.
“This is certainly very serious issue that requires attention of the federal government on urgent basis,” the chairman Senate committee commented.
He said as the issue has created considerable concerns in civil society of Pakistan. Quality research need of hour: IIUI president : President International Islamic University, (IIU) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, has stressed the need for original and quality research for contributing in national policymaking. He was presiding over the meeting of the board of advance studies and research (BASR). The meeting was attended by the DGs of Academic, Professors, Teachers and Supervisors, and experts from other universities.
In the meeting, Research proposals of PhD, MS, MPhil and LLM Level students were discussed at length and only those research proposals which were found in accordance to the criteria were approved and the rest were referred back to the faculties for improvements.
