Provinces asked to ensure 100% polio vaccination coverage

The concerned authorities of provinces have been asked to ensure 100 percent vaccination coverage during every polio immunization drive. According to an official of Polio Eradication Programme, the provinces have also been directed to reach every child to protect from this crippling disease. He said over 16 million children of under five-year age were administered drops during three-day polio eradication drive in high-risk areas concluded on Wednesday. He said the campaign activities were covered by more than45,000 vaccination teams besides area supervisors in 82 high-risk districts. He said that the government and development partners are putting all efforts to make Pakistan a polio-free country and sought support of the general public and local communities. He said that National Emergency Action Plan for polio eradication and its augmentation endorsed by the prime minister calls for ensuring that all children are immunized even in the high-risk and security compromised areas of the country. He said that under augmented plan, the government is getting support of parliamentarians, media persons and Ulema to address the issues like refusal of administering polio vaccine to children and low coverage of vaccination in some areas. The official said that the plan ensures achieving full oversight, ownership and accountability for polio programme performance at each administrative level besides ensuring adequate preparations for anti-polio campaigns. He said that the government is committed to implement the emergency plan in true spirit especially at union council level of each district. He said that collective efforts of the government, development partners, local communities and media can help alleviate the sufferings of all the children.
2nd phase of anti-dengue spray from 11th: The second phase of anti-dengue mosquito spray drive would start in the rural areas of Islamabad from June 11, said Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed.
He said that rural area has been divided into five zones, including Bhara Kahu, Sihala, Tarlai, Shah Allah Ditta and Rawat. Around 11 anti-mosquito spray teams headed by the assistant commissioners and magistrates, have been constituted to carry out fumigation in the rural areas.
The deputy commissioner said he had also reviewed the progress of the first phase of anti-dengue drive launched in the rural areas of Islamabad from March 31 to April 17 and anti-mosquito spray at 224 specific areas was carried out during the first phase of the drive.

The annual Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) conference, chaired by Pir Muhammad Naqeeb-ur-Rehman, was held at Eidgah Shrine, in which thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad participated. Custodian of Eidgah Shrine Pir Muhammad Naqeeb-ur-Rehman said Muslims are facing problems as they have forgotten teachings of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet. “There is solution of all problems in following the Quran and Sunnah. We should follow footprints of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).”President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan said some elements wanted to damage Pakistan’s image among the comity of nations by portraying it as an insecure place. He said Pakistan is a peace-loving country and there is no extremism and sectarianism as being propagated abroad by certain quarters. He appreciated the role of saints in promotion of Islam, especially in the Sub-continent through love and peace. Chairman of Sunni Ittehad Council Sahibzada Fazl Karim and Custodian of Hazrat Sultan Bahu Shrine Sultan Fayyaz-ul Hassan also spoke on the occasion. Renowned religious scholars, Ulema and Mashaikh from different schools of thought attended the annual international conference that is held on regular basis. Special prayers were offered for peace and prosperity of the country, besides exemplary unity among the Ummah to effectively thwart the nefarious designs of anti-Islam forces.
