The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested former director general of Health Asad Hafeez over submitting “wrong” statement in the infamous ephedrine case. The ex-DG, whose name was registered in FIR No 40 of the ephedrine case, was arrested at the ANF headquarters where he arrived to record a statement. He was arrested because he could not submit a solid reply in the case. Hafeez was called for interrogation in the light of statements by the prime minister’s Principal Secretary Khushnood Lashari and other officers.
Hafeez is currently working at the National Institute of Health as Project Director. The prime minister’s son Ali Musa Gilani is included in the Rs 7 billion drug case being heard by the Supreme Court. He is facing allegations of influencing health authorities to convert the ephedrine quota for domestic consumption. On Thursday, the ANF issued a statement, saying evidence was available against the prime minister’s son in the drug case.
