Maryam Rusal, daughter of the late great master of landscape and print making, Ghulam Rasul (GR), here Friday displayed her oil paintings to pay tribute to the services of her father in the field of visual art.
As many as 32 paintings were put on display in which the artist showed her inspiration to Legendary Landscape Painter through vibrant hues and capturing nature. Her vibrant colors and simple expressions are the most noted factors of her work. She is inspired by day to day things, her style of painting can be related to her father, said Naheeda Raza, curator of the show.
Maryam focuses on still life, landscape and figurative composition as main theme with a complete command on medium. Following her father’s footsteps, she kept alive the studio of Ghulam Rasul to revive the spirit of GR’s dialogues with nature that contained refreshing mustard fields, autumn in Islamabad, Saidpur Village, Skardu Fort, village life, harvesting, Himalayas and many more aspects of nature.
For GR, nature was the best companion as all of his work wonderfully captured the stunning glimpses of nature and was well known for his impressions of Islamabad, its environs and the particular way of life of the area colored by the austere beauty of the landscape and its nomadic heritage.
His paintings took inspiration from a direct observation of nature as he used rich pallete that brought a pictorial richness to his canvasses. With amazing dexterity, the artist rendered the images like rustic scene, urban setting with multi colored kites interspersed in the sky, raindrops blurring the horizon, cattle out in the open fields etc. His work shows the endeavors in a life devoted to art that spanned over 40 years of love for his land and the landscape. He was fondly known as the man of green and yellow fields, and of buffaloes shown as distant dark smudges, and men and women seen in red and white clothes, breaking the green and grey of the plains.
Maryam holds a degree in M.A Fine Arts with distinction from Punjab University and there are many groups shows and solo exhibitions on her profile. The exhibition will continue till June 18.
