Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited Alipur Chatta, Gujranwala on Friday and sought the details of the alleged torture of two sisters. Inspector General Police Haji Habib ur Rehman also accompanied him.
The chief minister said an investigation team comprising honest police officers is being constituted to probe the matter and that the team will submit its report within 72 hours, in the light of which stern action will be taken against the people involved.
He said the matter will be investigated impartially and justice will be upheld. He directed IG Police Haji Habib-ur-Rehman and DIG Gujranwala Capt (r) Muhammad Amin Wains to ensure complete protection to the victims. The victims expressed their complete satisfaction over the investigation being carried out by the police.
Meanwhile, on arrival of the chief minister in Alipur Chatha, a large number of people gathered in streets and bazaars and welcomed him by raising slogans in his favour.
Before reaching the house of the aggrieved girls, the CM stopped at six different places and sought details about the incident.
National Assembly member Justice (r) Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema, Provincial Assembly member Shaukat Manzoor Cheema, Gujranwala commissioner, RPO and DCO, local leaders and workers of the Muslim League-N were also present on the occasion.
