Punjab Assembly opposition leader Raja Riaz said on Friday that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should distance himself from the Supreme Court. Addressing the provincial assembly, the opposition leader said although Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry’s stepping down from the bench which was hearing the suo motu notice involving Arsalan Iftikhar, was a good gesture but he should distance himself from the Supreme Court as all the judges are subordinate to him. He said if provincial budget fails to provide relief to the people, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will register their protest. Riaz stated that his party respects the sanctity of the courts and that PPP leaders appeared before the Supreme Court on three different occasions.
