The Australian cricket team will play in Canberra for the first time next year after the nation’s capital was unveiled as a host city for upcoming series against either Sri Lanka or the West Indies. Cricket Australia announced Friday that Australia would play one of the two teams, who are both scheduled to tour in 2013, in a day-night game at Manuka Oval. “This is an historic moment for cricket in the nation’s capital and a great way to help celebrate the centenary of Canberra,” CA chief executive James Sutherland said. Just one game is scheduled for now, but Sutherland suggested Canberra could host more internationals in the future. “At this stage it’s a one-off,” he told reporters. “It’s one step at a time. Let’s get the lights up. Let’s get the Australian team here.”
