The US Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a four-day ‘Train the Trainers Programme’ at the Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) this week under its Assessment and Strengthening Programme (ASP).
The programme will train 30 faculty members from LUMS, the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi and the Sukkur and Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar on procurement management, monitoring and evaluation, and human resource and administration of development assistance programmes. ASP is a five-year USAID-funded initiative which aims to strengthen the capacity of local organisations to effectively manage development funds.
“This training programme will increase accountability and transparency in the management of development assistance in Pakistan,” ASP-LUMS Chief of Party Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi remarked at the training launch. “USAID is building the capacity of its implementing partners to follow the US government’s rules and regulations, and in doing so, the USAID will build their capacity to meet any donor’s standards for future funding,” he added.
