Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz said on Friday that although Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s stepping down from the bench, hearing the suo motu notice involving his son Arsalan Iftikhar, was a good gesture but he should distance himself from the Supreme Court as all the judges are subordinate to him.
Addressing the provincial assembly, the opposition leader said that if the provincial budget fails to provide relief to the people, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will register protest.
The opposition leader said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should distance himself from the court as all the judges of the apex court are subordinate to him, adding that stepping down from the bench hearing Dr Arsalan’s case is good gesture on part of the chief justice.
Raja Riaz said that his party respects the sanctity of the courts and leaders from the PPP reverently appeared before the Supreme Court on three different occasions.
