CJ should distance himself from SC: Raja Riaz

Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz said on Friday that although Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s stepping down from the bench, hearing the suo motu notice involving his son Arsalan Iftikhar, was a good gesture but he should distance himself from the Supreme Court as all the judges are subordinate to him.
Addressing the provincial assembly, the opposition leader said that if the provincial budget fails to provide relief to the people, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will register protest.
The opposition leader said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should distance himself from the court as all the judges of the apex court are subordinate to him, adding that stepping down from the bench hearing Dr Arsalan’s case is good gesture on part of the chief justice.
Raja Riaz said that his party respects the sanctity of the courts and leaders from the PPP reverently appeared before the Supreme Court on three different occasions.

    • Why you get angry if someone puts a suggesstion which is a very part of CODE OF CONDUCT framed by CJ himself. Ironically, CJ seemed reluctant to leave the bench initially using Quran and Islam, and his this act was utter departure from CODE OF CONDUCT framed by CJ and his colleague judges themselves.

  2. Raja Riaz is right. As long as Iftikhar is CJP, no judicial proceedings against his son can be impartial. It is in the interest of justice that he resign so that basic requirements of justice can be met.

    • @asif shaikh, dont try to distort principles of logic to serve your ends. PM's son had his case in court and PM was heading the govt, not court, and this is is a case of a judge hearing case of his son in his own court. The two cases are totally different. Dont let your personal like or dislike to overcome principle of justice.

    • You must learn what is funny and what is a serious suggesstion. RJ is right becoz CJ had tried to depart from Code of Conduct framed by himself. Tell me how did his son promoted to BPS 18 from BPS 17 in 6 months in 2006, when ordinary officer take 10 years. Going by Arsalan's past record, this case seems to be correct.

  6. I agree that the CJ should step down but so should Zardari, Gilani and every other member of the crooked PPP. I wonder if the CJ is getting to close to the truth about these crooks.

No other govt. in the history of Pakistan has been marred with more corruption charges and has installed more incompetent and undeserving people in power places than this govt. gillani should have resigned long time ago for incompetence. This job is too big for him and he is not fit for a leadership role.
