The World Environment Day is being observed at a time when our environment is being exposed to serious damages. Global warming and climatic changes are some of the formidable challenges faced by our planet with unimaginable consequences, until or unless preventive steps are taken to control the anticipated damages.
National Highways and Motorways Police is cognizant of the challenges posed by climate change and has taken major policy initiatives in the environment sector to cope with these situations.
The NH&MP arranged a tree plantation ceremony on this occasion under the supervision of Assistant Inspector General (Operations and Development) at the Institute of Islamic Sciences, a local madrassa Mahad Al- Uloom Al- Islamia, 17 mile Toll Plaza (IMDC), Islamabad. Where, plants were planted by the personnel of NH&MP and The Taliban of the Madrassa.
The AIG said that “Vehicle emissions are responsible for up to 50 percent of the emissions of carbon monoxide in metropolitan areas. I believe that there is a great need to raise awareness about this changing global scenario. In this endeavor the NH&MP is educating the society through road safety seminars, advertisements in print and electronic media. This makes it all the more significant that we launch mass awareness programs at different levels to put this message across to different audiences”.
He further added: “I invite every one of you to come forward and contribute in achieving the goal of Green Economy. It is our collective responsibility to bequeath a pure and safe environment to our succeeding generations”.
