“Regardless the differences of cast, creed, color and religion, people across the world have a similarity that they all live on same planet, so it our joint responsibility to protect the environment on earth,” said Kevin Murakami Public Affairs Officer of US consulate Karachi.
Murakami, expressed these views at Khalil Shaheed Park, Clifton amid a tree plantation ceremony, held jointly by District Municipal Corporation South and National Forum for Environment and Health.
Addressing the ceremony, after planting a tree, Murakami termed Pakistan as the most beautiful country in the world, he ever visited. He also stressed the need to spread awareness so as to safeguard the beauty of the country.
He appreciated the DMC and NFEH for their efforts to protect environment. He concluded the involvement of school going children in environment friendly activities, as a large number of students were present along with their teachers, belonging to various schools of the metropolis.
DMC South Administrator Mohammad Raisi said in his speech that the entire country particularly the metropolis of Karachi was suffering from deteriorating environmental issues. He said that various sections of the society have to made collective efforts to safeguard the environment. He also shed light on the contribution of the DMC for environment sector that included cleanliness campaigns, provision of machinery and awareness drives.
NFEH President Naeem Qureshi, while expressing his views said that environment related issues were a major concern of the society. He hailed the rising interest of growing breed in environmental issues. He said that trees and plants played a vital role in safeguarding environmental and are indeed one of the major blessing of nature on mankind. He vowed to enhance tree plantation drives and to discourage the spare usage of wood.
Municipal Commissioner Saleem Jokhio, SE Rehmatullah Sheikh Director Parks Qamar Masoodi, Director Information US Consulate Shazia Ali and Rashid Hussain Ansari President Ansari Educational Foundation also present on the occasion.
Naeem Qureshi briefed Murakami about the activities and contribution of the NFEH in environment and health sectors.
A large number of school-going children, belonging to various schools of private sector also participated in tree plantation activities. They welcomed the distinguished guests at the park and discussed their aims for protecting environment.
