Every Pakistani should contribute for making the country `greener’ and maintain environment around, clean and beautiful with special endeavors for greener tomorrow, said President Pakistan Green Task Force Dr Jamal Nasir here on Tuesday.
Talking to APP in connection with World Environment Day, he said it is the time to make earth a better place to live in and every citizen must play its role by making environment around them cleaner.
“Instead of leaving everything for the government, the people must accomplish their responsibility and to make environment more greener by planting trees around them,” he added. Dr. Jamal Nasir said that positive steps are being taken for better and clean environment but there was a dire need to expedite these efforts in this regard.
He said that various challenges are being confronted by the country in this regard including cutting of trees, scarcity of water, traffic pollution, low quality of petrol, etc. To combat these problems, he said, the Government and people would have to take revolutionary decisions and must focus to make the country green.
He said that 5,000 products are made from trees and government should discourage the practice of cutting of trees. “Focus on planting trees would also help to generate more revenue and resolve environment related problems,” he said and urged the government to hold seminars and arrange TV programs for more awareness about improvement in environment.
To a question regarding environmental threats in Pakistan, he said that trees are being cut, use of shopping bags are increasing and such practices should be discouraged.
He also called for concerted efforts to turn the country greener by planting maximum trees and for active engagement with international community to address environmental issues.
