Karachi University has issued clarification regarding students’ protests being made over the announced results of first professional BDS and Part A MBBS.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the University said it announced fair results and bears no responsibility of getting the students passed or failed in their medical examination.
Since the question paper and nomination of examiners for the assessment of answer scripts is done by the board of studies of BDS and MBBS, the University is responsible for declaring the results only.
It is pertinent to note that the MBBS and BDS papers have 100 marks which is divided into two equal parts, MCQs and Theory.
The MCQs are scanned through computer whereas the Theory paper is assessed by the faculty members.
Numbers of both sections are combined by Karachi University after which the examination department announces results. In such a case if a candidate is getting failed with the difference of either 1 or 2 marks, the University has no authority of granting grace marks to the students as per the policy of Academic Council and Higher Education Commission.
Vice Chancellor, KU, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser expressed that Medical is a very respectable profession and the students should have some ethical considerations before coming out on streets. He said protest for 1 or 2 marks does not suit the dignity of their profession.
Dr. Qaiser added that although the University has no direct concern with the issue but we formulated a committee comprising the dean and secretaries of Board of Studies of MBBS and BDS.
However, students’ mistrust on the committee is indeed sad. It is thus concluded that the University has released fair results as per the rule of University of Karachi and has not taken any illegal stance.

In this relation, QS has regarded University of Karachi as a large university having more than 24000 enrolled students.
As per the ranking, the University has focus on all five major faculties and have a high rate of research. Dr. Qaiser in his message said that it is a matte of pride that the University is able to attain higher ranks with every passing year.
It is very likely that due to the dedicated efforts of KU teachers and researchers, the University will be able to get listed in the top ten universities of the world”.
