KESC launches campaign on Environment Day

Karachi Electric Supply Company through week-long public awareness campaign in connection with World Environment Day has promoted its message to reduce harmful carbon emissions by conserving electricity, the benefits of which go much beyond environmental health.
On the occasion of World Environment Day being observed throughout the world on June 5, KESC in a public engagement activity at the Arts Council would be targeting the visiting audience from all spheres of life and educating them on environmental issues. An awareness program will also be aired via FM-91.
On June 4, KESC organized an interactive session at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Office in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, where Secretary Environment, Director General Environment, Chairman KATI, members of industrialists community, representatives of Philips and Siemens, and KESC Energy Conservation team members were present.
The seminar included detailed presentation by Mr. Asif Hussain Siddiqui, Energy Conservation Director KESC, mentioning the importance of the role of energy conservation efficiency particularly in industrial sector by usage of energy efficient technology which is environment friendly and helps conserve electricity. Technical perspectives of energy efficient lighting and Industrial solutions were also delivered by representatives of M/s Philips and M/s Siemens. On the occasion, Chairman KATI formed a committee comprising members of KESC’s Energy Conservation Department and KATI. Chairman KATI also offered his main office to be transformed into Energy Efficient lighting to make it symbolic role model for other members of KATI.
Same day, KESC also participated in the Youth Festival on World Environment Day at the Frere Hall, highlighting the importance of Energy Conservation and its correlation to Global Warming.
Earlier on 2nd June, KESC arranged to disseminate leaflets and information on energy conservation and how it affects environment at Civic Center, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Aisha Manzil F.B. Area.
World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment Day activities take place all year round but earmarked on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere. World Environment Day celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
The 2012 theme for World Environment Day is Green Economy. The UN Environment Program defines the Green Economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a green economy can be thought of as one which is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.
