A fire broke out on Monday at the Lahore High Court which destroyed furniture and accessories in the chamber of a judge. No casualties or injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The fire broke out in the court of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah during the early morning hours due to a short circuit. Firefighters were called, who managed to extinguish the fire immediately.
All the records, court files and electronic gadgets remained safe but the furniture and accessories in the chamber were reduced to ashes. However, the judge had to hold proceedings in the court of a senior judge which had fallen vacant as a result of his elevation as the LHC chief justice. Litigants faced inconvenience as the shifting was made on an emergency basis. LHC Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial inspected the site and ordered the formation of a committee headed by District and Sessions Judge Inquiry, Development and Research Javed Rashid Mehboobi while DSJ Establishment Irfan Ahmad Saeed and Additional Registrar Atta-ur-Rehman will be its members. The committee will determine the cause of the fire and submit its recommendations for avoiding such incidents in the future.
