The South Asian Review (SAR) journal (special edition) devoted to the Pakistani creative writers in English was launched at the Department of English, Punjab University here.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of the South Asian Literary Association (SALA) of the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in collaboration with the Punjab University English department at which works of noted Pakistani writers including Taufeeq Rafat, Kaleem Omar, Amra Raza, Mina Malick Hussain etc were read during a sitting attended by literary figures, professors and students. The SAR special edition includes literary contributions from 48 Pakistani writers including 25 women.
English Department Chairperson Prof Dr Amra Raza, terming it a historic occasion, congratulated SAR Editor Profr KD Verma and co-editors. She said that Pakistani writers had reached a new level of creativity in the English language.
Dr Fawzia A Khan and Dr Waseem Anwar, SAR guest editors, presented posthumous gratitude to Kaleem Omar and highlighted achievements of the Pakistani creative writers since 1947. Both academicians and scholars presented their works on the occasion.
Dr Fawzia Afzal-Khan, Director of Women and Gender Studies at Montclair State University, thanked the guests and expressed the hope the SAR edition would inspire young writers and pave the way for future generation to work in the English language,
