Parliamentary Committee meets today to elect CEC

A vital meeting of Parliamentary Committee will be held here on Tuesday to take up the issue of appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner on recommendations of the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition.
All the concerned respondents are stuck with their proposed names for the CEC and the Awami National Party (ANP) has decided to present recommendations on the subject.
The committee has to approve the name to be appointed as the new CEC within 15 days. Nominated by the PM the refusal of Justice (R) Zahid Qurban Alvi has prompted the PM to go for a new name.
According to 18th amendment, in case both of them fail to reach a consensus on any one candidate, both Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition would forward the list of three candidates each to the Parliamentary Committee, with one-third representation, to decide from these lists with majority vote a candidate to be appointed as the CEC.
