The written tests for appointment of permanent faculty members will be conducted through the National Testing Service (NTS). In addition, PhD degree holders will be given an exemption from the written test and will directly appear before the selection board. However, these decisions will be applicable from publication of the new advertisement. This has been decided in a meeting of Karachi University Syndicate, presided over by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, an official of the institution said on Sunday.
It was further pointed out that during the meeting, Prof. Dr. Farkhunda Burke was nominated as the new chairperson of the Department of Geography for a period of three years. Moreover, members of Syndicate appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s efforts for resolving the issue of Chairpersons for the Department of General History and Islamic History. A committee has been constituted including Abdul Haseeb Khan (Convener), Prof. Dr. Nighat and Prof. Dr. Abuzar Wajidi, to look into the matters related to Islamic History. Another committee including Abdul Haseeb Khan (Convener), Prof. Dr. Nighat and Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry will investigate matters related to General History Department.
A four member committee has also been constituted to analyse the need of appointing teaching assistants full time/ part time and adjunct professors.
The Syndicate approved the adoption of Higher Education Commission’s Tenure Track Process Statutes 2.0 and statutes related to Emeritus Professor (Grade 22). However, the decision will be applicable after publication of the new advertisement.
It has also been decided that a tender may be released to provide transport service to Karachi University students.
Matter related to giving equal PhD allowance to teaching and non-teaching staff of KU is in pending till the next meeting, due to some legal complications.
In order to bring improvement in the academic processes of the University, it has been decided that faculty wise meeting of chairpersons will be called on monthly basis, minutes of which will be sent to the Vice Chancellor. Along with this a departmental meeting of faculty members will be called upon by the chairpersons, the minutes of which will be submitted to the office of the respective Deans.
