Karachi commissioner reviews arrangements for anti-polio drive

Commissioner of Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh in a meeting on Sunday said optimum compliance to guidelines set by WHO, Unicef and other relevant monitoring agencies would be ensured during immunization against polio campaign to begin on Monday.
He on the occasion also announced awards and certificates to officials and workers making outstanding contribution towards maximum immunization coverage of children upto five years of age against the crippling disease.
“Polio free Karachi is among our top most priorities,” said Roshan Ali Shaikh. The commissioner urged the officials to particularly focus on areas and houses that were previously denied of the coverage either due to refusal of the residents or because of any other reason that hindered accessibility to the children of these sites.
“During the campaign you must also ensure active involvement of the people who hold any influence and enjoy public respect,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by special secretary of health, Sindh, Dr. Suresh Kumar, WHO representative, Raza Shamsi, Unicef’s Raza Ahmed and H. Kashan, Director, EPI -Sindh, Raj Kumar, Karachi Cantonment Board’s, Dr. Shahzad Amin, Rotary International’s M.A. Jamali, Additional Commissioner (one) of Karachi. Abdul Wahab Soomro, Additional Commissioner (two), Rubina Asif and health officers of different towns (THOs) from Karachi.
