Illegal water connections irk residents of RCB

Illegal water connections are widespread in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) while the department concerned is playing a role of silent spectator.
The residents of RCB complained against increasing number of illegal water connections in the area. They said that the staff of Water Supply department is taking bribe for providing illegal water.
Hamid, a resident of Peoples Colony, a locality of RCB said that the illegal water connection holders have installed nozles in the water supply pipelines with heavy water motors, which are creating trouble for other residents and causing acute water shortage in the area. According to RCB Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO), Rana Manzoor Ahmed a campaign to check and disconnect illegal water connections from its areas was launched few months ago.
He said a number of illegal water connections were disconnected and the residents were warned of stern action with imposition of heavy fines against those who would indulge in any such practice in future.
The CEO told that special teams had also been deployed to check illegal connections.
Nearly 30 to 35 percent water connections in RCB areas were illegal and the residents were given a grace period of three months for the regularisation of their connections, he stated.
