‘All efforts afoot for anti-polio campaign’

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal has directed all District Coordination Officers (DCOs) to take all measures for making successful the upcoming anti-polio campaign starting from June 5.
He informed that the Health Department has formulated a micro plan which would be implemented in letter and spirit to meet the target. He said strict monitoring of the campaign would be conducted and work of all the mobile teams would be checks properly. The Commissioner stated this while presiding over a meeting held here to review the arrangements made for the anti-polio drive. The Commissioner directed the officers of ‘Auqaf’ Department to take help of religious scholars and ulemas in the regard so that the campaign could be made more effective.
Imdad said the area residents should be informed about the visit of the mobile teams through mosques’ loudspeakers. The commissioner directed the health officers to ensure their presence in the field so that the required results could be achieved, making the district polio free.
He urged the parents to come forward and play their role for the elimination of the crippling disease from the society. Briefing the meeting, EDO Health Dr Zafar Iqbal said throughout the country only 16 cases of polio were reported while no case could be witnessed in Punjab especially in Rawalpindi division.
He said control rooms have also been established in DCO and Commissioner offices to register complaints of the citizens. The Commissioner said training programmes were also arranged for teachers performing duties during the campaign.
He remarked that the citizens particularly parents’ role is quite important to make the anti-polio campaign a success. Strict action on negligence of the duty would also be taken, he added.
He further said along with the mobile teams, special vaccination centers in health centers and hospitals of the district will be set up. Special counters would be at public parks, railway station, bus stands, wagon stands, airport and other transit points where teams would be available to administer anti-polio drops to the children so that no child up to the age of five could remain unattended.

Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with Pakistan Wetlands programme and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will arrange a function at the college. The activities will highlight the theme “Green Economy; Does it include you?”
Minister for Climate Change, Rana M. Farooq Saeed Khan is likely to be the chief guest on the occasion. Senior Director World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Ghulam Akbar will present the welcome address and a presentation on `Efforts towards Green Economy’.
The students of the college will play performance on `Carbon Footprint’. The other activities include Tree plantation, art competition, Puppet show, Promos, Book launch and review of Wildlife of Western Himalayan region, review of books by Dean Wildlife Department Arid University and Syed Mehmood Nasir, Book Launch Coffee Table National Treasure of Pakistan and launch of Zoological records. Students handicrafts made from Recycled Products will also be displayed at the stalls.
Shami terms opposition attitude inappropriate: Senior Journalist and analyst Mujeebur Rehman Shami has said keeping in view the current circumstances in the country, the budget is an appropriate document.
Talking to Radio Pakistan Shami said the government has not put additional burden on people and salaries of the government employees are also increased. Shami said the generation of resources will be a major difficulty for the government for which it will have to print more money, which will increase inflation. He said power crisis is also a major stumbling block for the government.
To a question regarding attitude of PML-N members during the budget speech Shami said the pandemonium is common in assemblies of the other countries but indulging in scuffles is inappropriate.
