Punjab Labour Minister Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi has said the Punjab government’s efforts against child labour have been appreciated by the ILO and the US State Department.
He said the labour department had provided Rs 75 million in interest-free micro-credit to brick kiln workers in two districts for the elimination of bonded labour, child labour and the exploitation of workers.
Talking to a delegation of industrial workers, he said a special project had been launched to compliment the efforts exerted by the law enforcement agencies against trafficking and bonded labour in the province.
The minister stated that 200 informal education centres were facilitating 7,000 students at brick kilns in Lahore and Kasur whereas about 5,700 workers had been facilitated while acquiring their CNICs.
