Paramedics across Punjab continued their protest on Saturday for the demands for revised service structure, health professional allowance and the regularisation of contract employees.
The paramedics closed down the out-patient departments (OPDs) of the government hospitals to record their protest against the lack of interest on part of the health department in resolving the outstanding issues of the employees.
Dozens of paramedics demonstrated against the provincial government at all divisional headquarters and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. In Multan, the paramedical staff observed a strike, while a demonstrator attempted self-immolation by sprinkling oil on himself. His colleagues foiled his attempt and saved him. The protesters said the government had failed to provide relief to the paramedical staff and therefore the rulers had no right to be running the government affairs. They demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice in this regard.
