MTV Movie Awards to honour Hollywood’s hottest stars

Films will be front and centre when the MTV Movie Awards broadcast live from Los Angeles tonight (Sunday). Hosted by comedian/actor Russell Brand, the ceremony will honour some of the biggest names in Hollywood. ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘The Hunger Games’ are the top contenders for the golden popcorn trophies, earning eight nominations each. There will be six new categories, including best on-screen dirtbag and best gut-wrenching performance. And this year, there will be plenty of star power. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman, along with director Christopher Nolan, will be on hand to preview exclusive footage from the upcoming Batman film. Actress Emma Stone will receive the first-ever MTV Trailblazer Award, while actor Johnny Depp will be honoured with the MTV Generation Award for his contributions to the film industry. The Black Keys will perform a special rendition of their hit single ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ in Depp’s honour. Presenters include Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, Adam Sandler, Emma Watson, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg. French DJ Martin Solveig will serve as the show’s house DJ, remixing themes from iconic movies like ‘Jaws’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’.
