Administrator inspects drains

KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said despite having troubles in cleaning city’s drains owing to existence of encroachments at their edges, the KMC staff was making all efforts to clean them to save the people from any problem during the next monsoon season.
He expressed these views while talking to media representatives after reviewing the cleaning work at Glass Tower and P.I.D,C Nullah(Hijrat Colony) on Saturday.
Senior Director Health Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman, Municipal Commissioner DMC South Nauman Arshad and other high officials accompanied him on this occasion.
Administrator Karachi said that the water level in these drains had increased due to dumping of garbage by the surrounding localities, hence these drains must be covered fully for which required a hefty amount. Therefore this work will be done on a gradual basis.
Senior Director Municipal Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman on this occasion gave a briefing to Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed about the cleaning of city drains by KMC and District Municipal Corporations.
He said that a tatal of 13 major drains and about 345 small drains of city being cleaned in the present campaign with the help of a good number of manpower and heavy machinery. He said this work had been carried out speedily so that it could be finished before the start of rains in the city. Channelization of Glass Tower Nullah was completed whereas the cleaning of Gujjar, Kalri, Pitcher and Manzoor Colony Nullah underway speedily and already 80 percent of work was completed. The cleaning of Urdu Bazar Nullah was also done by cutting the road. The shopkeepers of Urdu Bazar had lot of troubles due to staying of rain water in monsoon at this junction and they have assured full cooperation to KMC in this work. The shopkeepers have also expressed satisfaction over the cleaning of nullah by KMC.
