PPAF’s new radio programme for disaster preparedness

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund’s flagship radio programme, Roshan Raahein, will hit the airwaves across Sindh from six stations of Radio Pakistan, simultaneously from Saturday (today).
Main objective of the radio programme is to prepare peoples about disaster and risk management, increase their awareness level on how to deal with floods, early warning system, evacuation, self-help, relief, recovery, health, diseases, cleanliness, nutrition, shelter, agriculture, livestock, etc, said a statement issued by the PPAF here Friday.
Main target audience of the radio programme includes Sindh province’s flood-prone areas, PPAF’s partner organisations working in the province, government, donor agencies and civil society with the purpose of preparing them on how to cope with natural disasters. This 15-minute radio programme in Sindhi language will be aired regularly every Saturday at 12.30 pm while the repeat broadcast would be every Wednesday at 3.30 pm on FM 93 (on Saturdays only. Listeners of Karachi can listen to this programme on MW 639 KHz).
Prior to designing and launching of the programme, an audience survey of the risk-prone areas was conducted to identify problems faced by the peoples during natural disaster. Several series of ‘Roshan Raahein’ have been aired so far which have gained immense popularity throughout the country.
The PPAF administration expressed the hope that this programme would go a long way in addressing problems faced by affected people during the floods. Listeners, who share their suggestions and feedback through letters and emails will be awarded gifts.
