Most of the functional water tankers of Capital Development Authority are supplying water to VIPs whereas common people are facing acute water shortage.
More than a dozen of newly bought tankers are fulfilling the needs of different directorates of CDA. Directorate Sports and Culture are using 5 tankers, Directorate Environment uses 5 and 2 are under the use of the city sewerage wing.
These new tankers, if allocated for the purpose of community welfare, can be of a great help in resolving water crisis in the city. According to the prime minister’s coordinator for Islamabad, Faisal Sakhi Butt, new tankers in other directorates of the CDA will be utilised for water supply to the community. Sources said the CDA has 45 water tanks out of which only 15 are working while others are dysfunctional and need repair. Meanwhile, shortage of water is irking the local residents. More than 270 complaints were received by VIP complaint centre on Thursday. These complaints were satisfied subsequently.
However, above 500 complaints are registered in other complaint centres on daily basis. Due to scarcity of tankers, water is supplied from 50 to 70 houses only, while all other complaints go ignored and the people are left with no choice other than to hire private tankers on high rates. A private tanker is filled at the cost of Rs 100 from the CDA filling point and is being sold within the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5000.
