The number of scholarships awarded to students by the Government College University Lahore Endowment Fund Trust (GCU EFT) has increased to 20 as Bank Al-Habib donated one million rupees to the fund on Friday.
The perpetual scholarship to be named after the bank will be given to a GCU student every year on merit. The scholarship will cover the university fee as well as the hostel expenses of the beneficiary. Bank Al-Habib General Manager handed over the cheque for one million to GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman.
GCU EFT Executive Committee Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said: “This is the second scholarship donated by Bank Al-Habib and it has pledged to donate a scholarship every year.”
The trust secretary said that GCU EFT has received 38 scholarships up till now which include 20 golden and 18 sliver scholarships. The sliver scholarship is initiated with a donation of Rs 0.5 million and covers the university fee of the beneficiary.
Prof Khaleeq-ur-Rahman expressed gratitude his on the donation and stressed that other banks should also come forward and support education.
GCU wins National Urdu Declamation Contest: The Government College University Debating Society has won the National Urdu Declamation Contest organised by the FCC University. 30 educational institutions from all over Pakistan took part in the declamation contest. GC’s Zahid Ali was awarded the Best Speaker prize and won both the rounds. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman congratulated Zahid Ali on his win.
