At least four people were killed on Saturday morning when missiles fired by a US drone hit a vehicle parked in a compound near Wana town of South Waziristan Agency.
An official in Wana, while confirming the drone strike, said the unmanned aircraft fired four missiles at the vehicle in the Ghawakhwa Sheen Warsak area near Wana. The vehicle smashed into pieces and the compound was damaged, he said. The official said that four people had been killed in the attack. The exact identity of the victims could not be determined, but the official suspected that they included foreign militants, including a brother of Commander Malang – a confidential aide of Mullah Nazir, who is alleged to have links with militant organisations including al Qaeda. The attack has ended an almost month-long break in drone strikes in South Waziristan. In previous May, about five drone strikes targeted hideouts and vehicles of the militants, killing over 30 people, including foreigners.
The tribal sources believe that due to frequent drone attacks in North Waziristan, several militants slipped into South Waziristan.
Meanwhile, three militants and a volunteer of tribal pro-government militia were killed during a clash between Kokikhel tribesmen and militants from the banned Lashkar-e-Islam in the remote Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency.
Drone attacks only serve the interests that are never known. They must be stopped as innocent people are dying and people living and have no connection to terrorists are paying the price.
