Special patrolling in all sensitive areas during day and night time would be enhanced while rangers and police would conduct snap checking in Karachi.
A high-level meeting, co-chaired by Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, took various decisions and reviewed law and order and security situation in Sindh, especially in Karachi.
The meeting was held on the direction of President Asif Ali Zardari and attended by the Sindh chief secretary, the Sindh Rangers director general and inspector general of police and other law-enforcement agencies.
It decided revision of territorial jurisdiction of all police stations in Karachi while creation of sub-police stations in all the sensitive areas. The other decision was to establish community policing within the jurisdiction of police stations. Creation of intelligence units consisting of IB, Special Branch along with local youth to identify the criminals was also decided while no house would be rented out in sensitive areas by the owners unless prior information. The meeting also identified sensitive areas which will be notified by the Home Department to give special status with respect to law and order. These are Kharadar, Orangi, Korangi, Patel Para, Kutti Pahari, Lyari, Malir and SITE.
The Sindh government was asked to acquire aerial surveillance with the assistance of the federal government which will help in procuring two such units to monitor the streets of Karachi from those units.
The entire jail record would also be reviewed and the criminals already released on bail will be brought on record and their activities monitored.
The federal government would ensure that the SIM cards would not be delivered directly to the clients and posted on the given postal address based on their CNICs.
Regarding progress on computerisation of arms licences in Sindh, NADRA was asked to expedite their registration as per the proposal and requirement of provincial government. It was proposed that a general meeting of all the political parties should be held to create inter-ethnic, inter-sectarian harmony within Sindh and efforts should be made at all levels to reduce the political polarisation in Karachi.
All SHOs should divide areas into security zones, classifying it as per previous incidents, troubles, raids and other criminal activities.
A separate meeting will be held in the first week of June to work out the implementation of surrender of illicit arms.
