Rowdy lawyers want judge out for rejecting application

A group of local lawyers has warned a civil judge of locking his court if he does not get posted elsewhere until next Monday.
Reportedly, Civil Judge Abu Bakar Saddique rejected a miscellaneous application filed by former district bar president Aslam Faiz on the ground that the application was not maintainable on the basis of the facts of the case. Faiz, who got furious after the rejection of his personal application, went to the judge along with his colleagues and gave him an ultimatum to get posted elsewhere until Monday otherwise they would lock his court.
Faiz then met a local district and sessions’ judge and told him that the civil judge had rejected his application without any legal justification, and told him that the civil judge should be posted out of the district to avoid any clash.
On the other hand, another lawyer Ghulam Rasul, who is also party to the case, went with his colleagues to meet the district and sessions’ judge, and asked him not to issue orders for the civil judge’s posting.
The judicial officers of the district are confused and cannot decide which party’s demand should be met to avoid tussle with the lawyers’ leaders. Situation in the courts is tense. Both groups are holding meetings on daily basis to defeat each other and exerting pressure on the judges to get their respective demands met.
It is important to mention here that during the last five months, the district bar leaders have forced four judges out of the town for not succumbing to their demands while making judgements. Incidents of locking the courts and manhandling of judges have also taken place in the past, but no remedial measures were taken to stop such practices.
