Speakers at a seminar said on Thursday that the governments in the past, particularly the regime of Zia-ul-Haq, used the name of religion for perpetuating their ‘rule’ and took no practical steps for transforming the country into a real Islamic welfare state. The seminar, held on the topic ‘Islam and politics in Pakistan’, was organised by the Society for Protection and Promotion of Islam at a local hotel.
Speakers Maulana Riazul Haq Qadri, Maulana Qamar Abbas Dehlvi, Rai Muzzamil Hussain, Qazi Sibtul Hassan and Hafiz Riaz Yazdani addressed the seminar.
They stated that Pakistan came into existence for the Muslims of the subcontinent who assembled on a single platform to achieve an independent homeland. They regretted that later the rulers and the people deviated from the original objectives envisioned for Pakistan by its founders.
The speakers urged all the religious leaders to wage a joint struggle for the enforcement of a complete Islamic order in the country, saying this was the only way to achieve progress and prosperity.
