LGH doctors strike against colleague’s murder

Lahore General Hospital Neurosurgery Department doctors observed a black day on Thursday and held a token strike against the brutal murder of Dr Aftab Qureshi, a neurosurgeon from the Jamshoro University, Sindh.
Later, addressing a press conference, PGMI and LGH Principal Prof Tariq Salah-ud-Din termed the incident as a national tragedy and demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to hold an enquiry into the murder.
He also appealed to the rulers to take immediate steps for arrest of the culprits. He said the medical community will hold protests throughout the country if the murderers were not arrested.
Prof Nazir Ahmad, Prof Naveed Ashraf, Dr Khalid Mahmood, Capt Retd Muhammad Bashir, Dr Anwar Ch and a large number of doctors attended the press conference.
Prof Tariq urged the president and prime minister to ensure financial assistance and security to the family of the deceased doctor. The participants of the press conference were of the view that had the law enforcement agencies and the Sindh government taken timely action, the life of the doctor could have been saved.
