Punjab Assembly opposition leader Raja Riaz said on Thursday that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah were to blame for the rampage by protesters in Faisalabad during a protest demonstration against power outages.
Talking to the media, he said the Punjab chief minister invited some people from Faisalabad to the Chief Minister House two days ago. Raja Riaz alleged that during the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif told them to hold strong and violent protests against power cuts, adding that the Punjab government fully supported the protesters.
He alleged that the Punjab chief minister and law minister were supervising the protests being held across the province for destabilising the federal government on the basis of the electricity load shedding. PML-N activists were holding a demonstration and damaging public property on the directions of the chief minister, Raja Riaz said.
He said acting on the orders of Rana Sanaullah, the police was nowhere to be found when the protesters went on a rampage in Faisalabad during the protests. He said allegations were being leveled against the federal government over the electricity load shedding in Punjab, but under the 18th amendment, a province could generate its own electricity. He said the Punjab government did not produce even a single unit during its four-year tenure.
The opposition leader maintained that the PPP-led government will end the power load shedding from the country soon because it has initiated new projects for producing electricity.
