The strike of Municipal Workers League of the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Thursday entered its third day against non-regularization of temporary employees working on daily wages and contractual basis in the sanitation department for the last four years.
In third day, they set up a protest camp in front of Rawalpindi Press Club at the Benazir Bhutto road where hundreds of workers gathered and expressed their anger against the district government for not regularizing services of the contractual employees.
President of the Municipal League, Haji Farooq Ahmed Khan told APP that blue eyed workers have been regularized putting aside all rules and regulation, adding “We will not allow any favoritism and nepotism in the department”.
He threatened to give a strike call in due course of time if their demands are not met, bringing all the garbage lifting work at halt.
Around 150 tons solid waste is daily collected from every nook and corner of the city and shifted to the dumping site in Kallar Syedan.
Khan also alleged that PML-N MNA Hanif Abbasi in connivance with the city government have occupied a parking lot of Municipal administration situation in B Block of Satellite Town, which was being used as shed for garbage lifting vehicles for last 20 years.
“No we have no proper site to park our vehicles,” he added.
