Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz on Thursday termed Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah responsible for the rampage by protesters in Faisalabad during protest demonstration against power outages.
Talking to media persons, he said the Punjab chief minister invited some people of Faisalabad to Chief Minister House two days ago. Raja Riaz alleged that during the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif gave them a task for holding strong and violent protest against power cuts and the Punjab government would fully support the protesters.
He alleged that Punjab chief minister and law minister were supervising the protests demonstrations being held across the province for destabilising the federal government on basis of power loadshedding.
Activists of PML-N were holding protest demonstration and rampaging public property on the direction of the chief minister, Raja Riaz said.
He said on order of Rana Sanaullah, police was not seen on the occasion when the protesters went on rampage in Faisalabad during the protest.
He said that allegations were being leveled against the federal government over power loadshedding in Punjab but under 18th amendment, a province could generate its own electricity, adding that the Punjab government did not produce even a single unit during its four-year tenure.
The opposition leader maintained that the PPP government would end power loadshedding from the country soon because it has started new projects for producing electricity.
He said shortage of fuel and increase in demand of electricity was the main cause for loadshedding in the country.
Punjab government is fomenting these protests. It is a pity, that Pakistan's biggest province has a Chief Minister who is not even a Member of Provincial Assembly. He is there because of a stay order of Supreme Court. The term is coming to an end but the Chief Justice does not consider the case important enough to hear on an urgent basis. It has been sent to the cold storage. The reason is obvious. He is in league with the Sharifs and also happens to be the first cousin of Rana Sanaullah.
