Pakistan Bar Council, SCBA congratulate CJP

Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) have extended congratulations to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on conferment of International Jurists Award – 2012 by the International Council of Jurists in recognition of his contribution in the field of administration of justice.
Mr. Burhan Moazzam Malik, Chairman Executive Committee, Pakistan Bar Council in his letter of congratulation stated, “It is indeed a matter of pride that your Lordship’s remarkably exceptional performance for supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and safeguarding fundamental rights of the people by giving historical judgments in number of cases of vital national importance in respect of mega financial scandals, missing persons and cases involving violations of fundamental rights of the people, have been internationally acclaimed. Conferring of such an important Award upon your Lordship is not only recognition of your extraordinary qualities as Chief Justice par excellence but also a matter of great privilege and pride for the whole Pakistani Nation specially for the legal fraternity of Pakistan”. Further, he assured the Chief Justice of the fullest cooperation of the Bar in his endeavors for supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law and independent functioning of the judiciary.
Mr. Muhammad Yaseen Azad, President, Supreme Court Bar Association extending felicitation on his own behalf and on behalf of all members of the executive committee of Supreme Court Bar Association said, “we feel that it is the recognition of judiciary of Pakistan at oppressed times. The lawyers communities stood up and struggled side by side with civil society for restoration of the judiciary and we once again at this occasion reiterate our stand that we would stand by judiciary in thick and thin”.

  1. Such a prejudiced Judge should not have been given this award. Rather, he should be thrown out of the Supreme Court. We should not forget that he has the honour of taking oath under PCO twice, once as Chief Justice, Baluchistan High Court and then when Musharraf elevated him to Supreme Court. Once a PCO judge, always a PCO judge.
