Local artists perform on Manto’s ‘Das Rupay’

A group of local artists performed on Saadat Hasan Manto’s fiction ‘Das Rupay’ here on late Wednesday at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) to entertain the audience of twin cities with thoughtful theater. The event was arranged by PNCA in collaboration with the Ministry of National Heritage and Integration in connection with Manto’s hundred years celebrations.
The script of the play was written by Arshad Khan and directed by Sabir Khan dealing with the original theme of Manto’s fiction that is based on the story of poor and rich in the society.
He raises the issue terming both the rich and poor as people on extreme stages. The play was an attempt to promote the trend of serious and thoughtful theater in line with other programmes of PNCA, said an official of PNCA while talking to APP here Thursday.
Such thought provoking plays not only give quality entertainment to the audience but also create a vision among the people to think about the issues in their surroundings. The quality and thoughtful theater plays an important role in highlighting and resolving the issues of the society through artistic expressions.
