President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday approved the appointment of Justice Umar Ata Bandial as chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The president also approved the elevation of LHC Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed as a Supreme Court judge. Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the appointments had been made on the advice of the prime minister. The prime minister had advised the president after the Judicial Commission’s nominations were subsequently endorsed by the parliamentary committee on the appointment of judges, he said.
